Building Unique Rug Pads
With the addition of a rug pad, that friction and wear and tear is slowed down, thus extending the life of your rug. Obviously this is like carpet rug pads. When it comes down to it, the rug pad that is used is just as important as what you see on the surface. Believe it or not, a rug usually wears out faster on the bottom of your rug than on the top.
After all, most people purchase area rugs so they don’t have to walk on the hard floor. Even if you have a hand knotted rug with a high number of knots per square inch and have difficultly seeing the holes, they are there. But has little, or nothing, to do with area rug pads usually. First off, this goes a long way in making sure that your rug is durable and lasts for years on end.
It’s much easier to pull up an area rug and rug pad to clean up spills than wall-to-wall. When vacuuming your rug, having your rug held off the floor will bring air underneath your rug, helping your vacuum be more efficient and your rug looking great. This is similar to cheap carpet rug pads frequently. You do not want to find yourself tripping over your rug time and time again, do you?
Rug pads are engineered to be odor, mold and mildew proof. While safety and protecting your rug are the most important reasons to invest in a good quality rug pad, there are a number of other reasons. This may only be a thin layer of protection, but you will definitely be able to notice the difference when you are walking in your bare or sock feet.
Rug pads do a terrific job of holding area rugs of any sort: seagrass, shag rugs, sisal rugs, wool rugs, jute rugs, even bamboo rugs-any type of area you can imagine, a rug pad can help secure. You don’t want the rug pad to show, so it should be cut to be at least 1/2″ smaller all the way around. The pad that you use under your rug is very important. Rug pads come in all shapes and sizes and most can be sized with a pair of household scissors.
